Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Teal Steps 1K/5K Walk that took place at the Tidelands Park, Coronado on Sunday, September 18, 2016. With the help of more than 550 participants, sponsors, vendors and volunteers, funds raised generated a total of over $25,000 in support of community outreach programs!!!!
Their participation in the first event of its kind for San Diego, Teal Steps 1K/5K helps support Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego's efforts to reach organizations and civic groups to raise awareness to empower women to be aware of their bodies, be their own advocates to get care in a timely fashion and be informed of the importance of early detection of ovarian cancer.
By supporting Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego, they are helping save more women's lives!
One of our organizing committee reported:
As tired as we all were, I felt truly refreshed to see such wonderful people come together while still laughing and joking and hugging. It was an honor to be a part of such an epic event! I still remember Peg asking.... Can we do this in a few months? And we all said ,"Sure why not!?" Just amazing.... Gail R. ran through that finish line and then told me how emotional it was to wear a survivor shirt. She felt it was a huge step in the healing process and that was just one story of hundreds."Chairperson, Peg Ford stated, "Retired USMC Colonial, astonishingly shared he has been involved with many types of these events, but this was one of the best organized ones he has seen! I think hearing this from a USMC Colonial is quite an acknowledgement! To see the smiles and gratitude on the faces of survivors was rewarding and confirmation although one tough challenge to not only organize the first of its kind but also in short six months, we did it and in Teal!!! We also created a forum for our community to walk proud and connect in a visible way not seen before in the general public!!!"
